A December sunset. Surfing in Melbourne Beach has a certain charm. Seeing the sunset from the lineup is a special treat Shared by many of the town residents. To see a sky like this means much more than one more wave before dark is not likely. Hope its a good one.
Seeing the Indialantic water tower indicates a good swell and you are on the outside. Chances are good you will get a five or six turn wave. In the old days you could see your neighbors on the second floor balcony of the Boomerang lounge. You could go up for a casual dinner or a cold drink after your session. It was common to see the same faces up there all the time.  It all added up to make the surf and your session seem sweeter!

Stones wear down, cement may crack and paint may peel, but nature will not be stopped. Here a Variegated Pothos climbs the stairs in its persistent quest to be nearer the light. Hand-painted acrylic on canvas. A sentimental painting, this was my home, a fertile courtyard in a fun community at just the right time. There was always someone to surf with. A memory, a legend, a story of the past, the Nine homes that were Eastwind were destroyed by the storms of 2004. No Lives were lost but the collective life that flowed from under the flat roof and block walls is gone. In its place a dry arid vacant lot. A new Zone outlawing any chance of its resurrection. The last of a lost breed gone. Its residents scattered in the winds of Hurricane Frances.
